Vito J. Gautieri Sr.

Vito J. Gautieri, Sr. lived 94 extraordinary years rooted in hard work, family, and service. Born July 1, 1931, in Batavia, NY to John and Lucia, he carried forward the proud heritage of Calitri, Italy. After serving his country in the U.S. Army and furthering his education at RIT, Vito began what would become a decades-long journey in construction and development — shaping the skyline and community of Batavia and Western New York.

He was more than a builder of structures. As a founding member of the Paolo Busti Cultural Foundation, Vito helped preserve and share the traditions of his Italian ancestry. As a leader and Life Director of the Associated General Contractors of America and past President of the General Building Contractors of New York State, he lifted his profession. And as a volunteer — from the Boy Scouts, Genesee Community College Foundation, Genesee County Chamber of Commerce and to countless local causes — he built bonds and better futures.

Vito’s energy found joy on the tennis court, in the company of lifelong friends, and most of all, in the love of his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, PFC Michael Gautieri (killed in WWII), Margaret Nassif, Vincent Gautieri and Serena Metz; and his former wife and mother of his children, Constance (Collins) Gautieri.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Marjorie (Molineu) Gautieri; his sister, Virginia (late Joseph) Gauck; his children, Victor (Julie) Gautieri, Valerie (Bobby) Tidwell, Vinessa (Merle) Schreckengost, and Vito Gautieri, Jr.; his step-sons, Anthony Pullinzi, Jr. and Michael Pullinzi; grandchildren, Nicholas, Gina (Derek), Devin, Nathan, Vance, Milo, Nia (Ryan), Constance and Siena; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

His legacy stands not only in the buildings he crafted, but in the community he strengthened, the culture he celebrated, and the love he gave so freely.

A family service will be held at a future date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Please consider memorials in his name to The Paolo Busti Cultural Foundation of Genesee County, in care of Annette LaBarbera, 29 Woodcrest Drive, Batavia NY 14020 or Eagle Star Housing 154 Cobblestone Court Drive, Suite 310, Victor, NY 14564.
