Ruth B. Pickert

Ruth B. "Sweetie" Pickert, of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, at the age of 97. She was born on Sunday, August 28th, 1927, in Clarence.

A 1945 graduate of Tonawanda High School, Ruth pursued her education at Bryant & Stratton Business Institute in Buffalo. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Genesee Memorial Hospital in Batavia and Madden Corp. in San Diego.

Ruth shared a fulfilling life with her late husband, William John Pickert, until his passing on August 24, 1996. Together, they built a loving family that was always at the center of Ruth's heart. She is survived by her children: Cindy L. Stevens of Rochester, Claudia (Jim) Nigro of Batavia, and W. Scott (Laurie) Pickert of Batavia. Her legacy lives on through her nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by her sisters, Shirley McCowan of Lockport and Joan Oliverio of Batavia, as well as her sister-in-law, Dorothy Kellogg of Batavia, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Charles E. Kellogg and Emily A. Schlagenhauf Kellogg, her brother Charles L. Kellogg, and her cherished husband, William John Pickert.

Ruth dedicated her time to volunteering with The Salvation Army, where she found joy in serving meals to those in need. Her love for literature led her to enjoy books on tape from the Richmond Memorial Library, and she cherished planning family gatherings that brought joy and connection to all who attended.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Grace Baptist Church, 238 Vine Street, Batavia, on Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. A memorial service will immediately follow at 12:00 pm at church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the Friends of The Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross Street, Batavia, New York 14020.
