Roland R. Thompson

Roland R. Thompson, 85, of Basom, passed away peacefully at his home on September 27, 2026, surrounded by the place he called home.

Roland was born on July 2, 1941, in Medina, the son of the late Frank and Sylvia (Fitch) Thompson.

Roland lived a life rooted in hard work trying to fix things. He was first married to the late Linda (Hartgrove) Thompson and later married the late Donna (McElwain) Thompson. Roland worked for many years in manufacturing as a toolmaker for Farrel Corp. in Rochester, NY and Lapp Insulator in Le Roy, NY, where he took pride in his work and the skills he developed throughout his career.

Those who knew Roland will remember him for his wonderful stories, his love of history and the past. He had a special way of bringing memories to life through the stories he shared. He also found great joy in gardening and had a lifelong love of tractors.

As the years went by, Roland's faith became an increasingly important part of his life. He served at Genesee Country Church and was a supporter of Harvest Hands Ministries in Westfield, New York. He faithfully supported the ministry and prayed diligently for its work and the people it served.

Roland leaves behind a loving family: his sons, Brian (Amy) Thompson and Jason (Gail) Thompson; daughter-in-law, Renee (Jack Frank) Thompson; brother, Ronald (Patricia) Thompson; grandchildren, Brendan (Michelle), Bridget Fogg, Brett (Allysa), Brooke (Jezelle), Ethan, Olivia (Thomas), Sophia, Gideon, Clayton, Fiona, and Ophelia; along with several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wives, Linda Thompson and Donna Thompson; his sons, Roland Jr., Raymond Thompson; and his sister, Hazel Thompson.

Roland will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harvest Hands Ministries, 6636 S. Portage Road, Westfield, NY 14787. Roland supported and prayed diligently for this ministry, and the family would be honored to have his memory remembered through continued support of its work.
