Richard Alexander Gdanice

Richard Alexander Gdanice Sr., 88, of Basom, passed away on July 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 14, 1937, in Buffalo, a son of the late Helen (Gonzowski) Surma.

Richard was a true outdoorsman who found great enjoyment in hunting, fishing, and trapping. He also had a lifelong passion for working on vehicles and, in his younger years, owned and operated his own body shop. Above all else, Richard cherished his family. The time he spent with those he loved brought him his greatest happiness and was the true center of his life.

Richard is survived by his wife of 69 years, Patricia (Bartlett) Gdanice; son, Richard Gdanice Jr., 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild on the way; sisters, Joan Centra and Gail Moratta.

In death, Richard is reunited with his mother, Helen Surma; daughters, Elizabeth Miller and Barbara Adams, and sister, Jane Garry.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, NY 14125. There are no services at this time.
