Richard L. Ahl

Batavia - Richard L. "Corky" Ahl, age 92, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026 at the New York State Veterans Home.

He was born on February 26, 1934 son of the late Charles and Janette Levins Ahl.

He was a 1953 graduate of Batavia High School and proudly served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He worked for many years as a salesman at Knox Shoe Store and Thomas & Dwyer before retiring from Batavia Downs.

He was a longtime memberof St. Anthony's Church and the Lions Club of Batavia. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed bowling, attending local high school sporting events, and cheering on his favorite teams: the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills. He also shared his love of baseball with the community, coaching Little League baseball for many years.

He is predeceased by his wife Betty Ann Gaeta Ahl whom he married on April 19, 1958. Betty entered eternal rest on November 10, 2017.

Surviving are his daughters, Linda (Mark) Restivo of Albion, Marianne (John Sr.) Sallome and Carol (Dan) Hunt, both of Batavia; five grandchildren; Jenna (Ryan) Meisner of Attica, Emily Sallome of Rochester, John (fiancee Katie Rustay) Sallome, Jr. of Batavia, Erin (Joseph) Oliveri of Bergen and Matthew Dobbertin of Rochester; great-grandchildren, Ryker Matthew Meisner, Joseph Oliveri III and Sawyer Oliveri; sisters-in-law, Joanne (late Paul) Kruppa of Batavia and Dolores (David) Prezyna of West Seneca along with several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his siblings, Norman Ahl and Jeannette Zufelt.

His family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the numerous health care workers that helped take care of him at home the past few years and also the wonderful care he received at the NYS Veterans Home the past 6 months.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4 pm to 8 pm at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 12 pm at St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Activities Fund at the NYS Veterans Home, 220 Richmond Avenue, Batavia, NY 14020, Crossroads House, PO Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021 or to the Notre Dame High School Foundation, 73 Union Street, Batavia, NY 14020.
