Phyllis Jean Brooks, known to all who loved her as Petunia, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on March 3rd, 2026.
Phyllis was born on June 9th, 1949, to Lois and Stanley Popek and welcomed home by her older sister Elaine. Several years later their family was completed with the addition of her brother Stanley.
She was predeceased by her husband, David, whom she married in 1967. Shortly after, they welcomed four daughters; Tammy (Mark) Cassidy, Dawn (Todd) Wheeler, Kelly Brooks, and Amy Brooks (Louis Gray) who they raised in Alabama, NY. She will be greatly missed by grandchildren; Erica, Jenni, Kelsey, Jordan, Justin, Jamie, Matthew, Megan, and great-grandchildren; Abby, Avery, Lila, Connor, Olive, Andrew, Margaret on the way, and Carter. Her grandchildren were one of her greatest joys and she loved supporting their various hobbies and endeavors. Whether it was a game of softball or Donkey Kong, she was right there cheering them on (or in the case of Donkey Kong, joining right in). She loved having fun and playing bingo at the Alabama Firehall,
She was an incredibly hard worker and retired from Nortera Foods in 2024, where she was a friend to everyone. A longtime member of the Alabama United Methodist Church, she served on their board of trustees and volunteered at nearly every event they sponsored.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 14th at Caryville Inn, 25 North Main St, Oakfield, NY, from Noon to 3:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Uncle Danny's Helping Hands Fund via Venmo to @Leah-Peca to support children and students in the Oakfield-Alabama community. Please include Uncle Danny's Helping Hands in the memo line.
