Peter Francis Harrington passed away surrounded by loved ones on October 16, 2026 at the age of 83. Peter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, sibling, and friend. He was a proud lieutenant of the Point Pleasant Fire Department Pea Pickers in his earlier years. Peter retired from Eastman Kodak and then attended college to be a substance abuse counselor and worked at various locations helping countless individuals on the road to recovery. Peter never said no to helping anyone and was a friend of Bill W for 50 years. If you were lucky enough to meet Peter (or get one of his infamous nicknames), then your life was forever changed for the better; everyone who ever met him fell in love with him and his kindness, humor, helpfulness, and knowledge.
Peter's life was forever changed when he met the love of his life, Nancy (Coughlin) Harrington and was married for 38 years. He loved baseball, golf, carpentry (he built his home when he was 58 years old), tinkering and fixing anything and everything, a good (or bad) cup of coffee, peanut butter crackers, John Candy movies, George Carlin, an avid gillygalooky watcher, flannel button downs, tending to his garden and grape vines, and spending time with his family.
Peter was the son of the late Lyle and Rosemary Harrington and brother of the late David Harrington and sister Judy Gossley (Jerry). He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and daughters Alyson (John) Kompanijec, Megan (Joshua) Unger, Kristin (Christopher) Witty, Janelle (Joshua) Rinker, and Karen Kelch, Julie Perticone, and Laura Trovato; sister Linda (Stephen) Beaulieu, brothers Steven (Susan) Harrington, Thomas (Linda) Harrington; sister-in-law Christine (late Dennis) Hanlon; brothers-in law Peter Coughlin and William Coughlin; and grandchildren Christina (Ryan) Sorel, Victoria (Harrison) Klipp, Katie (Jason) Drexel, Keelin, Ella, Max, Evelyn, Caroline and Cedella who were the light of his life as well as nieces and nephews and his best friend Lulu.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.E. Turner & Co Funeral Home, 403 E Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020. There will be a service to honor Peter at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Elba, NY 14058 on Wednesday, October 21st at 11:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peter's name to Genesee Cancer Assistance, 127 North Street, Batavia, NY 14020, which offered support to Peter that he was beyond thankful for.
