Batavia - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Marietta Hyback, a cherished pillar of our community whose kindness and laughter brightened every corner she touched. After a long and dedicated career with Bell South—culminating in a well-earned retirement—she found her true calling as a waitress at Mancuso’s, Alex’s, and Bohn’s, where she delighted patrons with her warm smile and genuine interest in their lives.
Marietta didn’t stop there. She lent her welcoming voice to St. Jerome’s Hospital switchboard, offering comfort to patients and families in moments of vulnerability. A simple phone call to the hospital often turned into a friendly chat, leaving callers uplifted by her empathy and boundless energy.
She was predeceased by her beloved son, Eugene Merton Walsh (d. 2001). She is survived by her devoted grandsons, Jonathan and Ryan Walsh, as well as her great-grandchildren Caleb, Coryn, and Cruz Walsh, who will forever cherish her stories, her hugs, and her unwavering support.
Anyone who knew Marietta remembers her genuine smile, her hearty laugh, and her gift for turning strangers into friends. She thrived on keeping busy, forging lifelong connections wherever she went, and reminding us all of the power of human kindness.
In lieu of flowers or donations, we invite you to honor Marietta by sharing your favorite memories, photos, and stories on the funeral home's website. Your recollections will continue her legacy of friendship and warmth, reminding us how much joy she brought into our lives.
Rest in peace, Marietta. You will be dearly missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street in Batavia.
