Marie R. Call, 96, of Batavia, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 26, 2026.
Marie was born on July 22, 1929, in Syracuse, New York, to the late Dr. Foster and Marie (Hauptli) Rulison. Affectionately known to family and friends as "Bee," she will be remembered for her gracious spirit, generosity, and grace.
She graduated from Nottingham High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Home Economics at Syracuse University in 1951. She worked as an Assistant Home Demonstration Agent with Cornell Cooperative Extension in Orleans County before marrying Richard (Dick) C. Call on May 9, 1953.
Together they made their home on the Robert V. Call family farm in Batavia, where they built a life centered around family. The farm became a gathering place for four generations, hosting holidays and special celebrations. In 1990, Ladies' Home Journal featured the family's Thanksgiving tradition, recognizing more than 30 years of bringing generations together. Beginning in 1989, summers at the family's cottage on Silver Lake became another cherished tradition. For more than 25 years, she and Dick spent their winters in Southwest Florida, enjoying the sunshine and orange groves. Marie had an incredible gift for making everyone feel welcome and every occasion feel special.
Over the years, Marie became involved in several community organizations throughout Genesee County. She served on the Board of Genesee Memorial Hospital, was an active member of the GMH Guild Committee, and became the first president of the United Memorial Medical Center League in 1969. She also participated in the hospital's modernization campaign, helping raise funds to support improvements in patient care.
Her commitment to public service extended throughout the community. She served on the boards of the United Way, the Genesee Symphony Orchestra, the Health Systems Agency of Western New York, and the Genesee County Council Health Systems Agency. She was also a trustee of Batavia First United Methodist Church. In recognition of her dedication, she received the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Batavia Rotary Club and the Community Service Award from the Batavia Area Chamber of Commerce.
Above all, Marie's greatest joy was her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard C. Call, August 2, 2014. She leaves behind her sons, Nathan F. (Peggy) Call, Peter R. (Julie) Call, and Philip R. (Jennifer Catone) Call; her grandchildren, Anne M. (Joseph) Bezon, Casey B. Call, Krista J. Call, and Jennifer M. Call; and her great-granddaughters, Olivia M. Bezon and Quinn M. Bezon. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, David L. (Mary) Call, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
There will be a private family service.
