Lloyd Wayne Cacner, 90, of East Bethany and Mt. Morris, passed away unexpectedly on June 11, 2026, at Noyes Memorial Hospital, Dansville.
He was born on May 30, 1936, in Batavia, son of the late Lloyd Lewis and Marian (Cosway) Cacner.
Since 1963, Wayne was a devoted member, deacon, and elder of First Presbyterian Church of Batavia, where his faith has played an important role throughout his life. He proudly served his community as a member of the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department, Committee Chairman of Boy Scouts Troop 20, and as Councilman and Assessor for the Town of Bethany. His dedication to service and commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on his family and community.
After graduating from Pavilion Central School, Wayne attended the DeVry Technical Institute, achieving an Associate in Applied Science in Electronic Technology degree. Wayne then went to work with New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) where he served the community for nearly 36 years as an electrical field planner, and ensured that electricity was promptly returned to service during and following storms. Wayne also proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and applied his technical and mechanical expertise in maintaining and operating the internal guidance systems of the historically significant Corporal missile system. Upon completing his active duty in 1961, he transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve, where he served an additional four years to the Nation.
Wayne found great joy in life's simple pleasures, including boating on Silver Lake, camping in the Adirondacks, fishing, and traveling with his beloved Ellie. He also cherished his teenage summers spent working at the snack bar in Letchworth Park, where he enjoyed meeting people and sharing in the community spirit. Above all, Wayne's greatest happiness came from the time he spent with his family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years and best friend, Eleanor "Ellie" Cacner of Warsaw; children, David (Laura) Cacner of VA, Susan (Kevin) O'Connor of East Bethany, and Steven (Malinda Blakeman) Cacner Sr. NC; grandchildren, Steven Cacner Jr. of Rochester, Hannah (John) Nevin of VA, and Abbey Cacner of Stafford.
