North Tonawanda - Josephine M. Westphal, age 86, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at Niagara Hospice in Lockport.
She was born Saturday, December 19th, 1936 in Buffalo, a daughter of the late Salvatore DiBenedetto and Beatrice Antoinette Rosenthal DiBenedetto.
A devoted mother, nana and great-nana, her family meant everything to her. She loved to bake and cook for them.
Josephine is the wife of Richard August Westphal who passed away on June 16, 2020.
She is survived by her children; Daniel (Mary) Westphal, Deborah (Peter) Duerden, Ruth (Michael) Buchholz and Julie (David) Barnas; three grandchildren, Abby (Late Chad) Zawistowski, Melissa (Christopher) Vanderbrook and Peter (Melissa Rigdon) Duerden; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Catherine (Martin) Maniscalco; brother-in-law, Henry Balducci; sister-in-law, Joanne DiBenedetto and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her siblings, Marianne Balducci and Robert DiBenedetto.
There are no prior visiting hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of her life will be held this summer. She will be laid to rest in Acacia Park Cemetery in North Tonawanda. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9908 or The Patricia Allen Fund benefiting John R. Oishei Children's Hospital, 1028 Main Street, 4th Floor, Buffalo, New York 14202.
