Jean E. Smith, a lifelong resident of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11th, 2025, at the age of 88 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home. Born on July 3rd, 1937, in Batavia, Jean was a daughter of the late Harry and Dorothy Anawald Russell.
Jean spent much of her career as a waitress at local establishments, including Engine House and The Hub. Later in life, she retired from Wal-Mart, where she brought creativity and joy to the craft department. Her passion for crafts extended beyond her work; she was an avid cook, baker, ceramist, and crocheter, sharing her talents generously with those around her.
Jean was the beloved wife of the late Everett G. Smith, who passed away on December 14, 2017. She is the mother of the late David Smith and sister of the late Marilyn Moulthroup and Ray (late Evelyn) Russell.
She is survived by her loving children, Debbie Robertson of Waco, Texas, Gordon (Cindy) Smith, and Sharon (late Craig) Belknap, both of Batavia. Jean was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and a great-grandmother to eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Donna) Russell of Rochester, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her kindness and generosity.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jean's life at a visitation on Saturday, October 18th, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Her funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery.
