Batavia- James Crimes, age 67, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 10, 2026.
James was born in Hurtsboro, Alabama, on Tuesday, March 4, 1958, a son of the late Billie and Annie (Miles) Crimes. He dedicated many years of faithful service as a laundry handler with Angelica Textiles in Batavia, where he worked diligently until his retirement. A man of deep faith, he was a devoted member of the Batavia Church of God by Faith, where he found strength, fellowship, and spiritual guidance throughout his life.
He found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially cheering on the Buffalo Bills. A devoted sports fan, he enjoyed watching football and basketball and never passed up the chance to spend a quiet day fishing. These pastimes brought him relaxation, happiness, and moments he deeply cherished.
James is survived by his wife, Louzell (Gibson) Crimes, of Batavia; children, Mary (Jason) Geter, of North Carolina, Kenyetta Culver, Thomas (Jessica) Culver, Shamika Culver, and Passiona McConnell, all of Batavia; siblings, Augustine (Fred Behl) Crimes- Fleming and Mattie (Gary) Crimes-Cooper of Batavia; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and very close family friends.
In death, James is reunited with his parents, Billie and Annie Crimes; brother, Charles Crimes, and sister, Anna Jean Crimes.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate James’ life during a visitation at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 516 Ellicott St, Batavia, on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery.
