Gladys Irene
Cassada Dunham
Mar 31, 1929 — Oct 20, 2026
Bryon - Gladys Irene Cassada Dunham, 97 of Byron, passed away Tuesday (October 20, 2026) at Crossroads House in Batavia.
Mrs. Dunham was born March 31, 1929 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Harvey and Candace (Wood) Newcomb.
Gladys was the wife of the late James S. Cassada who passed away in 1995, and the late Frederick H. Dunham who passed away in 2021. She is also preceded in death by her step-son, David Dunham; grandson, Craig DeRue; and brother, Burton Newcomb.
Gladys was a longtime member of the Bergen United Methodist Church and formerly attended the South Byron Methodist Church. She found happiness in life's simple pleasures, whether it was a good game of Skip-Bo or Kings in the Corner, working on a jigsaw puzzle or word search, or spending time sewing and crocheting. She loved watching and feeding the birds, especially when the lilacs were in bloom. Gladys also enjoyed playing solitaire on her iPad and rarely missed her favorite television shows, including The Lawrence Welk Show, Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, The Price Is Right, and Let's Make a Deal. She especially enjoyed baking and treasured time spent with her grandchildren. Above all, Gladys was happiest when surrounded by her family, sharing the everyday moments that meant so much to her.
Surviving are her children, Douglas Cassada of Batavia, and Kay (Gary) Clark of Fairhaven; step-children, Anita Hinkson of Byron, and Allen (Maria Elena) Dunham of Texas; step-daughter-in-law, Judy Dunham of New Hampshire; sister-in-law, Patricia Newcomb of Wisconsin. Nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter also survive.
Gladys' family will celebrate her life privately. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery in Byron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads House, 11 Liberty Street, Batavia, New York 14020 in memory of Gladys.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home in Batavia. Please leave a condolence, share a story, or light a candle at www.bataviafuneralhomes.com.
