Francis (Frank) G. Bates, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at his home in Bergen, NY.
Born on November 2, 1950, in Batavia, New York, Frank lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community.
A lifelong resident of New York, Frank graduated from Byron-Bergen High School before embarking on a rewarding career as a lacquer and finisher at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, where he made many lasting friendships. His work ethic and attention to detail were highly respected by all who knew him.
In addition to his professional life, Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972, earning the National Defense Service Medal. His patriotic spirit was further reflected in his membership with the American Legion, where he was an active participant for many years.
Frank had a zest for life and a variety of interests, including gardening, watching western movies and his favorite series, Yellowstone, NASCAR racing, and cheering for his beloved New York Yankees. Known for his domestic engineering skills, he was often found "putzing" around his home and garden, tending to the things and people he loved.
Frank is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Barbara (Sackett) Bates; his cherished children, Jennifer Bates (Scott Cratsley) and Michelle Wolfe (Robert); and his treasured grandchildren, Stephanie Wolfe (Michael McElwain), Andrew Wolfe (Samantha Morgante), Nathan Wolfe, and Emma Wolfe. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Robin Bates, brother-in-law, Bill Schuhart, and numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his kindness and humor.
He was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Marion Bates; siblings, Richard Bates, Robert Bates (Shirley), Joyce Newcomb (Robert), Lorraine Zury, Marge Cunningham (George), and Ronald Bates.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a visitation on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co., Inc. Funeral Home, located at 51 South Lake Avenue, Bergen. A funeral service to celebrate Frank's life will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Following the service, Frank will be laid to rest at Mt. Rest Cemetery in Bergen.
