Elizabeth A. Hilbert

Batavia - Elizabeth A. Hilbert, age 90, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

She was born on January 26, 1936, in Lancaster, daughter of the late Norman W. and Dorothy M. Brehm Wahl.

She was a graduate of Mercyhurst University, where she earned a degree in Home Economics, and later received her master's degree from SUNY Brockport. A certified Home Economics teacher, she taught Family and Consumer Sciences in the Batavia City School District until her retirement in 2002.

A member of Resurrection Parish since 1961, she volunteered at the Batavia VAMC Chapel for more than 35 years, assisting with daily Mass. She also served as a Home Services Representative for National Fuel Gas and was a lifetime member of the Genesee County Fish and Game Protective Association.

She was a member of the Retired Educators of New York (RENY), New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), American Home Economics Association, New York State Teachers' Retirement System (NYSTRS), and American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). She devoted 15 years to recruiting members for the Genesee County Retired Educators.

She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, baking, playing euchre, yard work, tending her flower gardens, researching her ancestry, and spending time with family and friends. She especially cherished remembering the birthdays and special occasions of those she loved.

She is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Donald D. Hilbert who passed away on November 3, 2020.

She is survived by her children, Christopher D. (Wendy) Hilbert of Bergen, Kimberly A. (Gardner) Holzhauser of Shackelfords, Va. and Steven C. (Brenda) Hilbert of Az..; grandchildren, Matthew Hilbert, Alyssa Hilbert, Alex Hilbert, Hennesey Kryston, Alexandria (Preston Goodrich) Holzhauser, Danielle Holzhauser and Kassandra Holzhauser; great-grandchildren, Georgia Goodrich, Preston Goodrich, Jr., Carter Goodrich, Briella Hilbert, Malachi Hilbert and Asher Hilbert; her brother, Robert N. (Karen) Wahl of Fredonia; her brother-in-law, Reginald Hilbert of Florida and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son, D. Michael Hilbert who passed away on August 30, 2020.

Friends may call on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home will services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, September 30, 2026. She will be laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mercyhurst University, Resurrection Parish, Sisters of Mercy or Wilmont Cancer Institute.
