Douglas W. Hooper

Douglas W. Hooper, known to many as Doug, was born on September 30, 1948, to Derwood and Shirley Hooper. He was a lifelong resident of the Lakewood area and a proud graduate of Southwestern Central School, Class of 1966. Following graduation, Doug attended Jamestown Community College.

Doug’s strong work ethic began early. His first job was as a paperboy in Lakewood, faithfully completing his route alongside his dog, Kookie, who accompanied him at every stop. During Lakewood winters, Doug and Kookie would make brief stops at the local laundromat to warm up. Kookie quickly learned where to stop along the route and which locations offered treats, becoming a familiar and welcome sight in the neighborhood.

Throughout his career, Doug was employed at Art Metal, Penny Pitcher, Lafayette Corners, Molly Brown’s, and House of Television. He eventually discovered his true calling in real estate. Doug took great pride in helping others find the perfect home and was known for his dedication, professionalism, and genuine care for his clients. In recognition of his commitment to the field, he was honored as Realtor of the Year in 2009. After more than thirty years of service to the Chautauqua area, Doug retired in 2020 from Howard Hanna Holt.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of thirty-three years, Roxanne; his stepdaughter, Jolean (Jim) Swanson; his stepson, Matthew (Monica) Swanson; and his cherished grandchildren, Grant and Reed Cheney, and Grace and Chloe Swanson. He is also survived by his cousin, Nancy Jones. Doug was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Ruth.

In accordance with Doug’s wishes, there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriner's Children’s Hospital.
