Diane Matters

Diane Elaine Matters, a longtime resident of Genesee County, passed away peacefully on May 2nd, 2026, at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia, at the age of 69. Diane was the daughter of the late Robert and Fern Matters.

Born in Buffalo in 1956, Diane moved with her family to East Pembroke in 1963 and graduated from Pembroke High School in 1974. A few years later, she moved to Groton, CT, with her parents and went through trade school to become a pipe fitter. Working for General Dynamics Electric Boat at their Groton boatyard, she worked on Trident nuclear submarines. Diane returned with her family to Genesee County in the late 80's and moved into healthcare to become a CNA. She provided nursing home care before moving on to home health care, which she continued for many years. She had a reputation for patience, intelligence, and compassion.

Diane is survived by a sister, Karen (McComb) in Oakfield, and a brother, Bill, in Castleton, NY. Diane is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Fern, and a brother, Robert.

Diane was an avid reader who loved the company of her cat and cherished spending time with her many friends who would stop by to visit. She will be sorely missed.
