Batavia - Charles Joseph Neth, III, age 90, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
He was born on March 22, 1936 in Batavia, a son of the late Charles J. Neth, Jr. and Alice Welker Neth Zeitz.
Charlie was born on a snowy Sunday in the spring of 1936, so much snow that the neighbors had to shovel the road open so his mother could make it to the hospital in town. He lived practically all his life on the family farm, in the house his great-grandfather built, and then in the home he built for his wife and family.
After operating the dairy farm, he had a long career as a Ford/New Holland tractor mechanic, retiring from Empire Tractor in 2003. After retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife, gardening, and various projects around the farm. Charlie was an avid outdoorsman, longtime member of Godfrey's Pond and loved hunting with his family and friends. His deer trophies were proudly displayed in his home. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family; his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He married Mary Catherine Cassidy on September 9, 1961 at St. Patrick's Church in Wheatville, NY.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Cathie Neth; children, Steven (Lisa Keicher) Neth of Batavia, Robert Neth of Batavia, Jean (Thomas) Lichtenthal of Batavia, Daniel (Heidi) Neth of Easton, MD, Amy (Michael) Stiefel of Redwood, NY, and Eileen (Adam) Hamel of LeRoy; grandchildren, Eli Neth, Marguerite Neth, Francis Neth, Robert Neth Jr., Michelle Telke, Courtney Mead, Jacob Neth, Jared Neth, Laura Wadhams, Jennifer Grey, Andrew Lichtenthal, Ty Stiefel, Luke Stiefel and Lia Hamel; 14 great-grandchildren; his sister, Ruth DuBois of Greeneville, TN; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved feline friends; Sam and Fred.
He is predeceased by his sisters, Lillian Wahls and Viola Wahls and dear friends Stephen Dermody and John Dermody.
Charlie's family extends their deepest thanks and appreciation to Dr. Rabih Salloum, MD and the nurses and staff at Strong Memorial Hospital for their excellent care for Charlie during his illness.
