Batavia - Arne H. Zipkin, 77 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, (December 28, 2025) at LeRoy Village Green Residential Healthcare Facility.
Mr. Zipkin was born May 12, 1948 in Batavia, a son of the late Phillip and Ida (Cohen) Zipkin.
As a lifelong Batavian, Arne took great pride in his hometown and the many friendships he built throughout the years. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he was always ready with a joke to tell.
Arne was a member of the Batavia High School Class of 1966 and a graduate of the University of Buffalo. He was an avid golfer who played in many local tournaments and was proud to have won a Club Championship at Stafford Country Club. Arne was also extremely dedicated to serving the community. He was a lifelong congregant and board member of the former Temple Emanu-El in Batavia. He was a member of the Batavia YMCA Board; the former Genesee Memorial Hospital Board, and was a founding member of the former Genesee Memorial Hospital Foundation, where he was instrumental in the development of the foundation's annual golf tournament. Additionally, he was active in the Golf Collectors Society and the Batavia Rotary Club where he was a former President and Paul Harris Fellow.
Arne is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Kathryn (Rugala) Zipkin, whom he married August 20, 1971. Also surviving are his children, Benjamin (Martha) Zipkin of Madison, Wisconsin, Jennifer (Andrew Brophy) Zipkin of Rochester, New York and Steven (Elizabeth Prizzia) Zipkin of Tappan, New York; Proud “Papa” to his five granddaughters, Adah and Helena Brophy, Zaya Zipkin, Margaret and Hannah Zipkin; sisters-in-law, Stephanie (Alan) Reinhardt, Frances Lasky, and Paula (Joel) Doyle. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Along with his parents, Arne is reunited in death with his granddaughter, Alice Frances Zipkin; sister, Barbara Z. Jones; nephew, Adam S. Jones; in-laws, Frank and Helen (Tamila) Rugala; brother-in-law, James Rugala.
In keeping with Arne's wishes, a private graveside service will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Star Legacy Foundation (https://starlegacyfoundation.org/) or Cure GRIN (https://curegrin.org/).
