Alvin E. Scroger, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
Alvin was born October 20, 1935 in Batavia, NY, son of the late Albert E. and Edith Wolcott Scroger and brother to the late Bruce Scroger.
He graduated from Oakfield-Alabama Central School in 1953 and went on to Morrisville State College where he received his degree in Dairy Industry in 1955. He was born into his parent’s family business, Oakfield Farms Dairy, where he worked throughout high school and college. In 1970, he bought the family business and went into a business partnership with the late Robert and the late Richard Call where they merged Oakfield Farms Dairy and Fargo Ware; naming the merged business Genesee Farms Dairy where Alvin was the managing partner. Genesee Farms expanded from their original 3 stores to 12 and was well known in the community for their homemade ice cream and baked goods. In 1977 the business expanded and purchased Oliver’s Candies. Genesee Farms was sold in 1997 and Oliver’s Candies was sold in 1998 after which Alvin retired. Alvin was inducted in to the OACS Alumni Hall of Fame in 2015.
Alvin is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sally Roberts Scroger whom he married on June 30, 1956 having just celebrated their 69 th anniversary. He is also survived by his sons; Rollin (Nancy) Scroger and Randall (Teresa) Scroger, daughters; Lynette (Norm) Crawford and Rebecca (Terry) Pangrazio, grandchildren; Roger Scroger, Malorie (Neil) Benjamin, Andrew Scroger (Deanna Berryman), Jacob (Katie) Crawford, Jeremy (Jenna) Crawford, Curtis Scroger, Travis Scroger and Marcis Scroger, Samantha (Jonathan) Stefaniak and Ivan Pangrazio, 10 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-laws; Maggie Scroger and Carol Roberts, brother-in-law; Kenneth Roberts and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by mother-in-law; Hazel Roberts and 1 sister-in-law and 2 brother-in-laws.
Calling hours will be held at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, NY on Friday, July 11 th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 12 th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church located at 31 Washington Ave in Batavia, NY at 3 pm. Burial following funeral service at Cary Cemetery on Albert St. in Oakfield.
