Obituary of Alice O. Stokes
South Byron - Mrs. Alice O. Stokes, 99, of South Byron, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at her home 9 days before her 100th birthday.
Mrs. Stokes was born October 31, 1919, in East Bethany, daughter of the late Daniel and Edna Spencer Rich.
A member of the First Baptist Church of Elba, she loved reading and crocheting. She was known as Allie to the many children she babysat for over the years. A special thanks from the family to Antoinette Jeerings for her wonderful and loving care of Alice.
She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Stokes, who passed away on October 24, 1970.
Survivors include her children; Douglas (late Janet) Stokes of California, Bruce (late Janie) Stokes of Pennsylvania, Sandra (Craig) Gillard of Batavia and Kathy (Daniel) Cummings of South Byron; ten grandchildren, late Kevin (Anita) Ulmer, Susan (Joseph) Napolitano, Nathaniel (Yvonne) Stokes, Heather (Peter) Wurst, Justin Gillard, Travis Gillard, Ben Gillard, Melannie (Shawn) Maher, Laura Cummings and Andrew (Allison) Cummings, 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Shirley Mowers of Bergen and Doris Boshart of Alden and several nieces and nephews.
She is the sister of the late Bertha Stokes, Lillian Say, Charles Rich, Ida Raymond, Harold Rich, Celia Chilson, Theodore Rich, Paul Rich, Marian Rich and Raymond Rich.
Friends may call on Friday, November 1st from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, where services will immediately follow visitation. She will be laid to rest in Maplelawn Cemetery, Elba.
