Oakfield - Mrs. Sandra C. Ames, 71, of Oakfield, medical secretary at the Albion Correctional Facility for 35 years, died Friday, December 30, 2011 at Buffalo General Hospital.
Mrs. Ames was born May 25, 1940 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Roger and Bertha Lawrence Carroll.
A member of the Oakfield United Methodist Church, Sandra was a member of the United Methodist Women and sang in the church choir. Most recently she was attending the West Barre United Methodist Church. For many years, she volunteered her time in the therapy department at the New York State Veteran's Home in Batavia and was a member of the Anna Ingalsbe Lovell chapter of the DAR.
A loving grandmother, she will be remembered as a good friend to many. She loved to make those around her feel welcomed and always took people under her wing.
Her husband, Bert L. Ames, died June 20, 1992.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Stephen) Pribek of Batavia and Jodie (Kirk) Lipowski of Elma; two grandchildren, Hannah Pribek of Queens and Robbie Lipowski of Elma; a sister, Phyllis "Penny" Hillebrand of Honeoye Falls and several nieces and nephews survive.
