Ruth Goodenbury Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Batavia - Mrs. Ruth I. Goodenbury, 102, of Batavia, NY, an employee at E.N. Rowell Box Factory in Batavia for 10 years, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. Mrs. Goodenbury was born September 17, 1910 in Byron, a daughter of the late Oren and Charlotte (Hummel) Ball. Mrs. Goodenbury enjoyed crocheting, making crafts, sewing and working with plastic canvas. An avid card player, she loved reading, search-a-word puzzles, listening to Lawrence Welk and watching the classic musicals. She was loved by everybody and will be remembered as "everyone's mom and grandma". Her husband, George Goodenbury, passed away in January of 1975. She is survived by her two daughters, Imogene (Russell) Stent and Dorothy (Arthur) Kowal, both of Batavia; her brother, Charles (Leola) Ball, Sr. of Saratoga Springs; her sister, Florence Horton of Rochester; seven grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is the mother of the late Kenneth Goodenbury, who passed away in October of 1974 and sister of the late Fred, Oren "Mikey" and Robert Ball, Lorraine Brumber and Doris Middlebrook and half-sister of the late Annabelle M. Hummel-Housel. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will follow at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway West, Amherst, New York 14228 or to American Heart Association, 3500 Winton Place #4, Rochester, New York 14623-2860. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia.
