Bergen - Robert J. Maher, 85, of Bergen, died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility, in LeRoy.
Mr. Maher was born August 25, 1927 in Batavia, a son of the late Sidney and Ruth (Sheridan) Maher.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and a former member of St. Peters Church in LeRoy. He retired from Eastman Kodak Co. and had worked at Graham Manufacturing Co., Yale and Town (Trojan) and American Laundry Machinery Co. He enjoyed gardening had a great sense of humor. His stories made everyone smile. He was a member of the Bergen Historical Society as he enjoyed history, square dancing and was a great handyman.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen M. (O'Brien) Maher, whom he married October 28, 1950; 3 sons, James (Theresa) Maher of Gates, Michael Maher and Christopher Maher, both of Bergen, 2 daughters, Maureen Maher and Colleen (Mark) Willis, both of Bergen; a daughter-in-law, Rose Kelly Maher of Bergen; 4 sisters, Barbara O'Grady, Marlene (James) Ireland and Donna (Robert) Powers, all of Bergen and Geraldine Lichte of FL.; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Patrick Maher and brother of the late Jane Ryan, Gladys Hill and Norman Maher.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 S. Lake St., Bergen. His Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery in Bergen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Sundae Rose Duyssen to the Muscular Dystrophy Assoc., USA, 3300 E. Sunrise Dr., Tucson, AZ 85718 or to Churchville Lions Club, P.O. Box 364, Churchville, NY 14428-0364.
