Mr. Richard (Dick) A. Saunders, 82, of Surfside Beach, SC and formerly of Batavia, died Thursday (October 17, 2013). Mr. Saunders was born December 14, 1930 in Batavia, the son of the late Francis C. Saunders and Helen Reed Saunders. A native of Batavia Dick worked for the Iroquois Gas Company before starting his own business County Fence Co. in the early 70's. He also served as caretaker and operator of Grandview Cemetery prior to his retirement. Dick is survived by his brother John Saunders of Phoneix, Arizona; his sister Glenna Taggert of Batavia; his two sons, Rick Saunders and his wife Lou of Batavia, and Jeff Saunders of New York City; and his three grandchildren, Jennifer Baier and her husband Randy and his great grandson, Aiden Baier of North Carolina, Amanda Saunders of New York City and Kevin Saunders of New York City. At the families request calling hours and services will remain private.
