Batavia - Mr. Richard Coe Call, 84, of Batavia, died at his home August 2, 2014. He was born March 12, 1930 in Batavia, a son of the late Robert V. and Lucille Hale Call Cuningham.



Mr. Call graduated from Batavia High School and Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 1952. He was the former co-owner with his brother Robert Call of Call Farms, Inc./My-T Acres, Inc. of Batavia. The family farm, which was begun by his parents, is now operated by his three sons and his niece, Patricia C. Riner, has grown in a half-century to be one of the largest farms in New York State.



Mr. Call has given generously of his time to Cornell University and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He served on the Cornell University Board of Trustees from 1993 to 2001 and was elected Trustee Emeritus in 2001. In 1985, he was recognized with the CALS Outstanding Alumni Award.



Mr. Call served many agricultural organizations in leadership roles. He has been a director and/or officer for Agway Cooperative, Telmark Leasing, H.P. Hood Milk Cooperative, Upstate Milk Cooperative, O-AT-KA Milk Products Cooperative, NYS Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Eastern A.I. Cooperative, Pro-Fac Cooperative and Western Farm Credit Association. In 2008, he received the Distinguished Service Citation, the highest honor bestowed by the New York State Agricultural Society.



Dedicated to his home community, he has been president of the Batavia YMCA, Executive Committee for the Genesee Boy Scout Council, and a trustee of Genesee Memorial Hospital, Batavia Rotary Club, and Genesee Community College Foundation. He was a member of Batavia First United Methodist Church.



Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marie R. Call; his sons, Nathan F. (Margaret) Call, Peter R. (Julie) Call and Philip R. Call; four grandchildren, Anne Marie C. (Joseph) Bezon, Casey B. Call, Krista J. Call and Jennifer M. Call; two great granddaughters, Olivia M. Bezon and Quinn M. Bezon; two brothers, Robert V. (Roberta) Call, Jr. and David L. (Mary) Call; one sister, Evelyn (Harlan) Brumsted; a brother-in-law, Theodore Kingsley and many nieces and nephews.



He was predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth Kingsley and Marie (Elting) Wells.



A celebration of his life will be held at Batavia First United Methodist Church, 8221 Lewiston Road, Batavia on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
