Mrs. Olga B. Ebling, of Hendersonville, NC and formerly of Batavia passed away quietly Sunday (October 7, 2012) at the Laurel of Hendersonville in Hendersonville, NC.
Olga was born in Liverpool, England on August 13, 1924, a daughter of the late Norman and Janet (McIntosh) Cohen.
She led an amazing life that included moving to London in her teens during the days of WWII with V-1 and buzz bombs raining down on a daily basis. Olga would go with her Mum who was an air raid warden on her rounds to make sure homes had their "black out" shades pulled down. It was during this time Olga met Carl Ebling, a handsome Marine assigned to guarding the American Embassy in London. Carl became part of the family in London and eventually knew he could not go back to the States and leave the love of his life behind. They were married in a full military wedding in London.
Olga arrived in the United States on the first of many ships full of "War Brides." Moving to Batavia and leaving her life and family in London behind was a difficult thing for a young girl of 20. But, soon she discovered the welcoming family and kind people she met in Batavia and her new life began. She had many wonderful friends in Batavia, many she made while working in the payroll department of Doehler Jarvis for 17 years. She has lived in Georgia and North Carolina for the past 12 years close to her children.
Olga is predeceased in death by her loving husband, Carl Ebling, who passed away in 1998.
She is survived by her son, Carlton "Skip" Ebling of Charlotte, NC and a daughter, Gail (John) Williams of Lake Lure, NC.
There are no prior calling hours. Services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery, Clinton Street, Batavia. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
