Byron - Mr. Nelson Neil Stamp, 77, of Byron, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, (January 2, 2013) at home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Stamp was born November 3, 1935 in Brighton, a son of the late Herbert and Mable (Crouse) Stamp Sr.
Mr. Stamp was a 1955 graduate of Medina High School, having played guard on the football team and singing and starring in high school musicals. He retired from Owens Illinois Glass Company in Brockport and also delivered the Democrat & Chronicle, The Daily News and the USA Today newspapers. Mr. Stamp attended the Byron Presbyterian Church and enjoyed spending time with his family, music and camping. He loved to talk to anyone who would listen and was well known and loved by many neighbors and friends in the Byron community.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol (Mooney) Stamp, whom he married September 22, 1956. He is the proud father of Mitchell (Michelle) Stamp of Batavia, Michael Stamp of Corfu, Lori J. (Keith) Pafk of Akron, Brian (Dawn) Stamp of Bergen, Lisa (Michael) Warner of Akron, Darin Stamp of Byron, L. Jeanie (Todd) Sloat of Bergen and Sue Carpenter of Byron. He is the very proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Burton (Joyce) Stamp, David (Mary) Stamp and Lymon (Cathy) Stamp along with many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Stamp is predeceased by his four sisters, Martha Rounds, Margaret Lipkey, Ruth Stamp and Sarah Stone; two brothers, Herbert Stamp Jr. and James Stamp; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Stamp.
Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Byron Presbyterian Church, 6293 West Main, Byron. Burial will be in North Byron Cemetery, Byron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the family.
