OAKFIELD - Leslie Craig Lamb, age 100, of Oakfield, NY died on October 24, 2012. Mr. Lamb was born in Darien on May 6, 1912 son of the late Henry C. and Ida Mae Welker Lamb. On September 3, 1938 he married Margaret Lloyd in Sage Chapel at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. Mrs. Lamb died June 7, 2002. Mr. Lamb operated a dairy farm in Darien Center for 32 years in partnership with his wife. On April 15, 1966 he purchased a dairy farm in Oakfield in partnership with his son Gordon.



Mr. Lamb was a 50 year participant in the Cornell University Farm Cost Account Program. He cherished his interaction with Cornell Professors in critiquing his farming operations. Other church and community activities included: Grange, Farm Bureau, 4-H Club Leader, Darien Methodist Church Sunday School Superintendent, Corfu Central School Board President, Genesee Wyoming BOCES Board, 50 year member of Dairymen's League, 32 year member of Upstate-Niagara Milk Coop., member of Oakfield Lions Club and Oakfield United Methodist Church and he was a co-founder of the Oakfield Thrift Shop.



Survivors include daughter, Lorna (Robert) Herdt of Freeville, NY; three sons, Gordon (Peggy) of Oakfield, Allyn (Norma) of Mechanicsburg, PA, Thomas (Nancy) of Bethel Park, Pa; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Travis) Morse of Pittsburgh, PA, Jeffrey (Rieko) of Cary, NC, Jennifer Herdt (Jan Hagens) of Hamden, CT, Celia Lamb (Robert Celaschi) of Kensington, MD, Craig (Janet) of Geneseo, Jonathan (Alicia) of Oakfield, Matthew (Kendra) of Oakfield, and Katie Lamb of York, PA. He is also survived by three brothers: Roland of Cowlesville, Gerald (Grace) of Corfu, and Evan (Vonceil) of Attica; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.



He was predeceased by his sister Elsie, his brother Kenneth and two sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Marian.



One of the highlights of Mr. Lamb's life occurred while he was taking a short course at Cornell in 1936: he was asked to play tuba in the Cornell Big Red Marching Band for the Cornell-Penn Football Game on Thanksgiving Day. It was a source of pride for him that all four children and all four grandsons were Cornell graduates and a great-grandson is currently attending.



Friends may call on Friday from 10 am. to 11 a.m. at the Oakfield United Methodist Church, 2 South Main Street. His memorial service will follow visiting at 11 a.m. on Friday also at church.
