Mr. Joseph A. Joy, 97, of Batavia, passed away peacefully, Monday (July 8, 2013) at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia.
Mr. Joy was born July 7, 1916 in LeRoy, a son of the late John and Frances (Marino) Joy.
A veteran, he served with the United States Army and was the commander and 70 year member of the American Legion Glenn Loomis Post #332. He owned Genesee Nursery, was a past member of the former St. Anthony's Church and was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Joy was a Deputy Sheriff for Genesee County and a town of Batavia zoning officer.
Survivors include a brother, Benedict Joy of Batavia; two sisters, Rita DiFranciso of LeRoy and Josephine Kozlowski of Batavia, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
His wife of 62 years, Josephine A. Joy, died in 2001. He is a brother of the late Mary Joy, Savina Joy and Charles V. Joy.
Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. His Mass of Christian burial will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Mausoleum, Batavia.
