    George Shamblin

    Mr. George Shamblin, 79, of Oakfield, went to rest on Friday (November 23, 2012), surrounded by his family at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. George was born on June 20, 1933 in Clay, West Virginia, to the late Albert and Vesta (Bishop) Shamblin, and after relocating in 1955, was a lifelong resident of Oakfield. Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Lorene (Gibson) Shamblin of Oakfield; their four children, George W. (Terry) Shamblin of Oakfield, Barbara (Harold) Wilt of Norfolk, VA, Brenda Coopenberg of Rochester and John (Gina) Shamblin of Oakfield; six grandchildren, Sean and Adam Chaddock, Andrew and Kathryn Shamblin, and Angelique and Rebecca Porey; two great-granddaughters, Ashlyn and Peyton and several long-time friends. George is also survived by his brother, Albert (Jean) Shamblin and sister, Sarah Goode, of Clay, W.VA and predeceased by his sister, Blanche Tawney. A Korean War veteran, George Shamblin served in the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Post 0626 and VFW Post 273. He retired in 1995 after 40 years of service to General Motors. The family will receive visitors at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave. in Oakfield for calling hours on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and for a service on Monday at 10:00 am followed by burial at St. Cecelia's Cemetery, Oakfield. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
