Obituary of Frank J. Wratny




BATAVIA - Frank J. Wratny, Jr., 91, of Batavia, passed away Friday, (January 17, 2020), at his home under the loving care of his family.



Mr. Wratny was born June 26, 1928, in Batavia, a son of the late Frank J. and Mary (Blascak) Wratny, Sr.



Frank served with the Army during both World War II and Korea and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Cornell in Agricultural Finance.  He went on to have a long career with Marine-Midland Bank, retiring as the branch manager of the bank's Gowanda location.  Mr. Wratny and his wife lived in Gowanda for 60 years, where he was a 50 year member of the Gowanda Country Club, a 30 year member of the Lake Wales Country Club and upon returning to Batavia, was a 6 year member of Terry Hills.  He was a long time member of St. Joseph's Church in Gowanda where he served on the Finance Committee.  He was the last surviving founding member of the Gowanda Lion's Club.  Frank was also a member of Resurrection Parish, St. Joseph's Church in Batavia, the VFW Post #5007 and American Legion Post #409 in Gowanda.

He is the husband of the late Elinor (Miller) Wratny who passed away in 2005.

Surviving are his children, Stephen J. (Joanne) Wratny of Clarence, Gail (Donald) Feathers of Piffard, and Karen (David) Olsowsky of Leicester; grandchildren, Lindsay (Adam) Klose of Lancaster, Ryan Feathers of Rochester, David (Aracely) Feathers of Scottsville, Rachel Feathers of Corfu, Eric Olsowsky of Geneseo, and Bryan (Christopher Navin) Olsowsky of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren, Addison and Austin Klose, and Trace Niedermaier; a sister, Katherine (late William) Gfeller of Livonia; a sister-in-law, Jean Wratny of Batavia.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Frank is preceded in death by four children, Frank J. Wratny, III, Mary Wratny, and two who passed away prior to being named; two brothers, Alfred Wratny, and William Wratny; and a nephew, William Gfeller, Jr.

Friends may call from 3 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street in Batavia. Frank's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (January 23, 2020) at the Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street in Batavia. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank's memory may be made to Gowanda Free Library, 56 W.est Main Street, Gowanda, NY 14070.
