Oakfield - Evelyn A. Johnson, 94, of Oakfield, passed away Friday, (July 6, 2018) at Batavia Health Care Center, in Batavia where she had been residing.
Mrs. Johnson was born May 2, 1924 in Dutch Corners, NY, a daughter of the late Gardner and Florence (Overholt) Johnson.
Evelyn was a member of the Elba Baptist Church but later attended the Oakfield United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Twilighter's Card Playing and Craft Making Club. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and loved to take walks on her street late at night.
She worked for 17 years at G.T.E. Sylvania as an inspector and spent summers working at the canning factory in Oakfield and Barre.
She is the wife of the late Bernard Johnson who passed away October 14, 1966.
Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Karen (Bill) Morris of Oakfield; a son-in-law, Thomas Coughlin of Pavilion; grandchildren, Michael (Lynnette) Morris of Oakfield, Wendy (James) Mountain of Clarence, Tamara Coughlin of Batavia, and Rachel Coughlin of Georgia; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Carter Mountain, Garett Morris, and Brandan Crossett; a brother, Floyd (late Helen) Johnson of Utica. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She is predeceased by a daughter, Judy Coughlin, brothers, Lewis and Kenneth Johnson, sister, Alice Poole, and a brother and sister who each died in childhood.
Friends may call on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, where Evelyn's Funeral Service will immediately following calling at 11:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Cary Cemetery, Oakfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakfield United Methodist Church, 2 South Main Street, Oakfield, NY 14125.
