Oakfield - Mr. Edward D. Murphy, 74, of Oakfield, died Wednesday (November 14, 2012) at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.
Mr. Murphy was born April 4, 1938 in Batavia, a son of Marion (German) Murphy of Hamburg and the late Sylvester Murphy.
A veteran, he served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. A member of St. Padre Pio Parish, Mr. Murphy was a member of the Full Gospel Businessmen's group and a graduate of Notre Dame High School. He was a lifetime member of the Genesee County Fair Board, where he served as a director for 13 years and he also loved horses. Mr. Murphy was a truck driver for O & E Growers.
Surviving along with his mother are a daughter, Cheryl (Dan) Porter of Basom; a son, Scott (Kristy) Murphy of Byron; two brothers, David (Peg) Murphy of Medina and Thomas Murphy of Bergen; a sister, Elizabeth (Jim) Hennenberg of Hamburg. He is also survived by three granddaughters, two great-great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
His wife, Joyce (Snyder) Murphy, died March 2, 1992.
Calling hours are Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Saint Padre Pio Parish - St. Cecilia's Site, 56 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. Burial will be in Cary Cemetery, Oakfield.
