BATAVIA - Diane Wheatley, 73, of Buford, GA, formerly of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, (December 11, 2013) at North East Georgia Medical Center, in Georgia.



Mrs. Wheatley was born June 7, 1940 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Daniel P. and Mary Jane (Reese) Smith.



She worked for many years in the Batavia office of the NYS DDSO. She moved to Georgia in May of 2011.

Diane was an avid crafter and especially enjoyed sewing. She liked baking and greatly loved volunteering. Her family was very important to her.



She is the wife of the late Edmund E. Wheatley, who passed away March 7, 1990.



Surviving are her children, Charles (Karen) Wheatley of Flowery Branch, GA, Scott (Pamela) Wheatley of Brighton, Robert (Tina Price) Wheatley of Oakfield; step-daughters, Jane (Dr. Thomas) Novella of New York City, Susan (Allen) Daniels of England; grandchildren, Pvt. Jonathan Becker, USMC, Kyle and Brittany Wheatley of Georgia, Amanda, Samuel, and Matthew Becker all of Brighton, Daniel Edmund Wheatley of Brighton, Makenzie, Lauren, and Robert Wheatley, Jr. all of Batavia, Elizabeth Novella of NYC, Daniel and Stuart of England, Mary and Cory of Tonawanda; a brother, James (Agnes) Smith of East Bethany; a sister, Nancy (Charles) Rieks of Florida; a sister-in-law, Elma Smith of LeRoy. Diane's close friend, Barb Schallenberger, of Batavia as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.



A brother, John R. Smith, precedes Mrs. Wheatley in death.



Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where Diane's Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, (December 17, 2013). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 15 Prince Street, Rochester, NY 14607; or the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department, 5253 Old Telephone Road, East Bethany, NY 14054. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in East Bethany Cemetery, Bethany.
