Bergen - Mr. Alex J. Szczupakowski, 85, of Bergen, a retiree of Western Electric, passed away Saturday, (May 4, 2013) at Strong Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.



Mr. Szczupakowski was born in Buffalo, a son of the late John and Maryann Szczupakowski.



Alex served his country honorably with the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Brigid's Church as well as the American Legion Post 575, and was a life member of the Bergen Rod & Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Al greatly enjoyed spending time with his family was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He would best be described as the "statesman of the family."



He is the husband of Dianne Szczupakowski, whom he married in 2006.



Surviving along with his wife are his children, David (Carol) Szczupakowski of Reedsville, PA, James (Joanie) Szczupakowski of Churchville, and Doris Szczupakowski of Tyler, TX; step children, Howard (Edith) Andrews of PA, Christine St. Martin of Port Byron, Patricia (Barry) Rushlaw of Palm Bay, FL, and Marsha (Nicholas) Regan of Rochester; grandchildren, Michael, Jeffery, Derek, Matthew, and Adam Szczupakowski, Howard Andrews III, Sarah Hoover, Michael, Joshua, and Matthew St. Martin, Danielle (Thomas) Pasqualucci, and Dianna O'dell; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth (late Daniel) Danwin of Tonawanda, Dorothy (late Joseph) Stark of Buffalo, and Renata (late John) Wisniewski of Buffalo. Several nieces and nephews also survive.



Alex is preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey Szczupakowski; brother, Ray (late Julie) Kelly; sisters, Irene (late Philip) Stark and Jenny (late Frank) Osgrostrzynski.



Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen. Alex's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, (May 8, 2013) at St. Brigid's Church, 18 Gibson Street, Bergen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Brigid's Church, P.O.Box 219, Bergen, NY 14416 or to the Gillam-Grant Community Center, 6966 West Bergen Road, Bergen, NY 14416. Burial will be in St. Brigid's Cemetery, Bergen.
