Warren G. Tucker
Batavia - Mr. Warren G. Tucker, 87, of Batavia, dispatcher for New York Telephone in Batavia, died Monday, May 5, 2008 at New York State Veteran's Home in Batavia where he had resided the past few months.
Mr. Tucker was born October 12, 1920 in Grove, New York, a son of the late William and Eleanor Wagg Tucker.
Mr. Tucker lived in North Fort Meyers for several years before returning to the area. He attended the Methodist churches in Batavia and North Fort Meyers. Mr. Tucker loved music and played in a band for many years. He loved to bowl, square dancing with his wife and formed a softball league while living in Florida. He served during World War II with the Army Air Corps.
Mr. Tucker started as a lineman and maintained the teletype at the New York State Troopers Barracks in Batavia and also maintained the switchboards of various local businesses in Batavia. He retired from New York Telephone after 35 years of service as a dispatcher.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine M. Bowen Tucker whom he married May 4, 1944; his son, Tom Tucker of Batavia; his daughter, Sharon (Norman) Fairbanks of Byron; his brother, Lester Tucker of Swain; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Elaine Van Slyke, Edna Macrae, Vincent Tucker, Wilma Van Slyke and Burdett Tucker.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 8221 Lewiston Road, Batavia. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.
