Richard J. Sheelar

Batavia - Mr. Richard J. Sheelar, 75, of Batavia, died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at United Memorial Medical Center.

He was born in Barre February 17, 1933, a son of the late Joseph and Kathleen McMahon Sheelar.

Mr. Sheelar was a St. Joseph's Church. He was also a member of Telecom Pioneers and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He worked as a cable splicer for N.Y. Telephone from 1951 to 1991.

He is survived Audrey, his loving wife of 52 years; six children; five daughters, Kathleen (James) Spink, Joanne Sheelar, Nancy (Steven) Kruppner, Margaret Spink and Lucy (Thomas) Gomez; one son, James Sheelar; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of Helen Dobrovolsky, Marie Anthony, George (Rose) Sheelar, Vincent Sheelar, Dorothy Calby and Gerald (Amelia) Sheelar.

He was preceded in death by brothers Joseph, Daniel, Leo and John Sheelar and a sister Anna Jakaub.

There are no prior calling hours. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 14, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia.  Entombment will be in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 315 Alberta Drive, Amherst, New York 14226 or to the American Heart Association, 2113 Chili Avenue, Rochester, New York 14624.
