Roy Richard "Dick" Volk

Oakfield - Roy Richard “Dick” Volk, 87, of Oakfield, died Wednesday, (January 11, 2012) at Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital, in Buffalo.

Mr. Volk was born May 23, 1924 in Corfu, a son of the late Fred and Nellie (Porter) Volk.

Dick was a past member of the Oakfield Presbyterian Church and founded the Babe Ruth League in Oakfield.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, and was awarded two Purple Hearts.  He was the first letter carrier in the town, and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

His wife of more than 60 years, Ruth L. (Hart) Volk passed away in 2010.

Surviving are his children, Linda (John) Wandryk of TX, Gina Volk of Rochester, Sharon Volk of Rochester, Pat (Tom) Pawlaczyk of Brockport, and John (Robin) Volk of Oakfield; and a sister, Marion Lewis of LeRoy.  9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews also survive.

Roy is preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Volk; as well as several brothers and sisters. 

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, where Dick’s Funeral Service will be held on Monday, at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oakfield Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 184, Oakfield, NY 14125.  Burial will be in Reed Cemetery, Oakfield.
