Cora B. Grefrath


Mrs. Cora B. Grefrath, 80, formerly of Batavia, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Grefrath was born March 6, 1931 in East Bethany, the daughter of the late Harry W. and Bertha Williams Bowman.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years.  Mrs. Grefrath began her career as a librarian at the Richmond Memorial Library.  She then went to the former Brooklyn School and then to Robert Morris School as a media specialist until her retirement in 1986.  She was instrumental in the establishment of the library at St. Paul Lutheran Church and was an avid supporter of the school at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

 Her husband Amos R.Grefrath died in 2001.

Survivors include two sons, David W. (Michelle) Grefrath of Pavilion and Daniel J. (Phyllis) Grefrath of Syracuse; one daughter, Ann (Mark) McDonald of Homestead, Iowa; one brother, Wilford (Ernestine) Bowman of Wyoming, NY and one sister, Clara Chandler of Santa Maria, CA.  She was the grandmother of Thomas, Michael and Brian Grefrath and Ian McDonald and great grandmother of Owen Grefrath; sister of the late David Bowman, Donald Bowman, Grace Kruger and Helen Legg.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia, and Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Ave., Batavia, where services will follow at 2:00 PM.  Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran School, 31 Washington Ave., Batavia, NY 14020.  Burial will be in West Bethany Cemetery, Bethany.
